When this DC couple contracted with Eileen Ritter & Associates, the designer knew the project would pose interesting challenges. The wife wanted the feeling of an immaculate white gallery; the husband couldn’t get enough color. Ritter discovered her clients had a wealth of family heirlooms and, drawing on Ritter’s rich background in museums, the design team utilized these ethnographic materials as showpieces.
In the living room, a ceremonial robe is hung in an exhibition case and a collection of daggers is floating on museum mounts. These objects provide the gallery effect requested by the wife and the color that the husband desired.
During the renovation, Ritter & Associates, worked as a tight-knit team with the contractor and the lighting designer. The clients were so pleased with the result that they fantasized doing at least two more homes with “the same crew”.
